Generally, you will need 3 pattern pieces in order to create drapey front jacket sewing patterns and ideas. 2 pieces will be used as the front part of the jacket while the remaining 1 piece will be used for the back part.
- The first thing you should do is hemming the bottom edge of the three pattern pieces and then make the narrow hem. You can do it by folding the fabric edge inside up to ¼ inch. Stitch the fold and leave a trim. Make sure to fold the hem once again before you stitch it. In this way, you will be able to have a very narrow hem.
- Then, you can make a narrow hem on the front pieces. The hem should be stitched along the front fabric edge.
- After that, gather the side seams of the front and back pieces. To keep it aligned, you can begin gathering from the hem. To get a better result, you can stitch the hem by using a zigzag pattern or overlocker.
- Last but not least, you can create a narrow hem for the edges of the neck and the armholes. And voila! Your drapey front jacket is ready to use.
